Vermeil
Vermeil (pronounced “ver-may”) is a very thick layer of 14k or 18k gold coated over a sterling silver base metal. Vermeil is a luxurious and trending material in the jewelry industry. It’s best known for its ability to outlast plated jewelry as the coating of gold is much thicker.
In order to be classified as vermeil, the base metal must be sterling silver and the gold coating must be 2.5 microns thick or greater.
